Nag Bali is not technically the killing of a snake, but rather a ritual performed after killing a snake accidentally or knowingly. It is a religious activity that helps to wash off bad karma attracted by the killing of a snake, specifically a cobra. Hindus consider cobra as a sacred animal and it is worshiped on different occasions such as Nagpanchmi. It is a very sinful act to kill cobra as per Hindu mythology. The ritual starts with considering dough of wheat flour as the body of a dead snake and funeral rituals are performed over it by the priest. Such rituals are elaborated in ancient Hindu scriptures which also signifies how important it is to perform such religious ceremonies when one performs sin and is troubled from bad fortune. It is not important to know whether one has killed a snake, as it can be a sin of their past life. To get rid of the outcomes of past deeds performed in a previous lifetime, one is often suggested to get this Puja done and get free from the bad impact of the sins.
